The active ingredient in AKLIEF Cream is trifarotene, an innovative retinoid molecule that targets important factors that cause acne.1
In clinical trials, people using AKLIEF Cream showed a significant reduction in facial acne lesions as early as 2 weeks. However, individual results may vary.1
You should apply AKLIEF Cream to the affected area once a day in the evening. If you have to be in sunlight or are sensitive to sunlight, use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or more, and wear protective clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to cover the treated areas.3
For your face, use 1 pump. For your upper back, shoulders, and chest, use 2 pumps. If needed, you may use an additional pump for your middle to lower back.3 To learn more about how to apply AKLIEF Cream, go here.
If you can’t reach or don’t have anyone to help, applicators can be used to help you apply the cream where it’s needed.3
Don’t double the dose to make up for the forgotten one. Just continue the next day with the same amount of product. Try and keep using it as your dermatology provider instructed to get the most out of your treatment.3
Avoid contact with your eyes, lips, mouth, the corners of your nose, and vagina.3
Minimize exposure to sunlight. You should avoid using sunlamps, tanning beds, and ultraviolet light during treatment with AKLIEF Cream. If you have to be in sunlight or are sensitive to sunlight, use a sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of 15 or more, and wear protective clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to cover the treated areas. Avoid using skin products that may dry or irritate your skin, such as:
  • medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers
  • soaps, cleansers, and cosmetics that have strong skin-drying effects
  • products that contain high amounts of alcohol
Avoid the use of “waxing” as a hair removal method on skin treated with AKLIEF Cream.3
You may notice your facial acne improving as early as 2 weeks. In clinical trials, patients were asked to use AKLIEF Cream for 12 weeks.1 You should continue with your treatment as your dermatology provider directed.
There’s a chance your acne could come back when you stop AKLIEF Cream. That doesn’t mean the treatment didn’t work properly, but pores can become clogged again, causing acne to reappear. Follow your dermatology provider’s instructions on your treatment using AKLIEF Cream.3
Applying the recommended amount, following your dermatology provider’s instructions, and using AKLIEF Cream consistently on your face, chest, shoulders, or back can help keep acne from getting in your way.3 Find out how easy it is to follow a daily acne treatment routine.
  • Clean your skin gently, with a mild, non-abrasive soap, at least once a day3,5
  • Use skincare products that won’t clog your pores. Look for “non-comedogenic” or “oil-free” labels on the packaging5
  • Wash your skin after exercise5
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing5

Store AKLIEF Cream at room temperature, 68° to 77° F (20° to 25° C).3
  • Keep AKLIEF Cream away from light and heat
  • If you receive a sample tube of AKLIEF Cream from your dermatology provider, keep the tube tightly closed
Keep AKLIEF Cream and all medicines out of the reach of children.3
The most common side effects of AKLIEF Cream include: application site irritation, itching, and sunburn.3

AKLIEF Cream may cause serious side effects, including: Local skin irritation. Local skin reactions are common with AKLIEF Cream and are most likely to happen during the first 4 weeks of treatment and may decrease with continued use of AKLIEF Cream. Signs and symptoms of local skin reactions include3:
  • redness
  • scaling
  • dryness
  • stinging or burning
To help reduce your risk of developing these local skin reactions, when you begin treatment with AKLIEF Cream, you should begin applying a moisturizer on your skin as often as needed.3

Tell your doctor if you develop symptoms of a local skin reaction. Your dermatology provider may tell you to use AKLIEF Cream less often, or to temporarily or permanently stop your treatment with AKLIEF Cream.3

Indication: AKLIEF® (trifarotene) Cream, 0.005% is a retinoid indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris in patients 9 years of age and older. Adverse Events: The most common adverse reactions (incidence ≥ 1%) in patients treated with AKLIEF Cream were application site irritation, application site pruritus (itching), and sunburn. Warnings/Precautions: Patients using AKLIEF Cream may experience erythema, scaling, dryness, and stinging/burning. Use a moisturizer from the initiation of treatment, and, if appropriate, depending upon the severity of these adverse reactions, reduce the frequency of application of AKLIEF Cream, suspend or discontinue use. Avoid application of AKLIEF Cream to cuts, abrasions or eczematous or sunburned skin. Use of “waxing” as a depilatory method should be avoided on skin treated with AKLIEF Cream. Minimize exposure to sunlight and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and protective clothing over treated areas when exposure cannot be avoided.
